New Year's Day

¡FELIZ 2014! Nos vemos la próxima semana.

New Year’s Day does not exist in Europe’s calendar. It’s holiday and all stores are closed. Same thing as any Sunday. But there is something different because the wee hours have been so busy that no restaurants, no cafes, no bars are opened neither cinemas (if there is still some alive) that delayed their shows until some lost soul gets to jump out from bed or sofa and enter in the first theater she finds. What plan comes up from your mind? It’s not easy, isn’t it? Beyond the ski jumps on TV while mum lays the table with last night’s recovering stew… it occurs to me that…

For the lucky ones who are on the beach, on the deck chair alternating baths and cocktails, you’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s definitely the best place to spend January 1st.

For the ones you’ve got a ticket for New Year’s Day concert in Vienna… I hate you! First beach, but this is a perfect plan too.

For you brave that have decided to test your joints on a board or skis… congratulations! and come back safe. I’m still going for the beach.

For you that are in China… don’t got to Ikea to buy a sofa. You won’t even be able to fit it because all the pensioners will be enjoying the greatest nap. Stay at home watching movies and you’ll enjoy China other day.

For you who are suffering of a great hangover… ibuprofen, stew soup, sofa and blanket… and hope nobody bothers you. For you New Year’s Day does not exist in a calendar. When you realize, it’s already January 2nd and mèrde you must go back to work. I’m sorry for you, but this time I’m on vacation. Ta-daah!

For you who have half hangover… you can still dedicate to yourself some minutes to a homemade deep facial cleaning session and wipe out the rest of mascara from last night.

For you who have danced as the end of wall was immediate…let your feet dive and soak and treat yourself with a foot massage. All spa should be open by law January 1st all day long. Heels leave our feet unconscious. I’m sorry I’m not able to share this pleasure with you because I hate anyone touches my feet. Obsessions.

For you parents… be patient because it’s the worst day in the whole year to spend with kids stuck at home. If weather behaves, a ride on the bicycle. If it’s a shitty day, deploy all your toys and games and creativity arsenal. Good luck!

I know. It’s very difficult to find a good plan for January 1st. The Beach, Vienna or the snow holiday are our dreams. If this year you’ve happened to fail into achieve any of them, enjoy a day with family or friends. If you’re alone… the telly, some reading… Let’s do things simple but, for God’s sake! don’t get depressed switching channels and watching the trillionth repeat of the New Year’s Eve gala on TV.

HAPPY 2014! See you next week.
